DOMMY-NATION OF GRANGE PARK IN THE DARK
Castlethorpe v North Grange Park, 30th June, SNCL
Div 1 Cup Semi Final
Sheet anchored the T20 dash
with 28 from about 17 overs. Fielded exclusively in one corner of the field
doing either Long Leg or Long Off, little coming his way apart from the
occasional foray into the football field.
Two balls faced – first was
pulled for four, second bowled him. Did himself a series of injuries with
bowling spell, finishing up bowling at the death cranking up the mph under
cover of heavy dark cloud. Tough to hit.
33 spanking runs and even a
bit of running between the wickets, including four boundaries. More leg side
shots than usual apparently. Found himself standing at cover point and put in a
Jonty-like performance much improved on his recent efforts at slip, which even
involved moving and diving around.
A batsman in great form and
consistently picking up runs of late. It showed as he romped to 45 not out with
some proper cricket shots, including two magnificent straight sixes. Little to
do in the fields after that, but played the decisive innings.
Promoted up the order and
returned precisely zero runs in a bold hitting out approach at the death. First
three overs went wicketless and for 33 runs, before rounding off their innings
in the last over with a wicket maiden. Proper death bowling, that Sir Geoffrey.
Had little chance to prosper
with the bat and sacrificed himself run out to ensure Dommy kept on strike,
making a brace of runs. Again another with relatively little to do in the
field.
Appeared as a non-striker
with Dommy for the last 3 balls and avoided any strike by sprinting the 2s like
a madman. Had run a 3 himself by the time Dommy hit the last ball of the
innings for 4. Solid behind the stumps in increasing darkness.
All wound up and ready to go
but no chance to ply his spanking skills with the bat. At least not during this
cricket match, what he gets up to behind closed doors is his business. Five
tidy overs for 29 runs although did get mullered for a six in the direction of
the tennis courts.
Separated at birth from
Scotty P and hard to tell which of the two handsome men was actually on show.
Like it made any difference. No batting, no bowling and not that much fielding
as was generally ‘in close’ as the ball passed him regularly.
Midweek debut for Thrupp and
unfazed as bowled a good length amid the onslaught, going for just 25 off his 5
overs, whilst bowling their left hander. Plenty of boundary fielding to do.
Listed at 11 and unlikely to
bat as it indeed turned out. Much boundary work again in the field, and
provided the Champagne Moment of the Match when taking a catch (our only one
mind) running in from Long Off, courtesy of an assist from his man boobs.
