YAM THE WONDER RUNNER
Castlethorpe v Dunchurch, SNCL, 30th April
First game of the season and
a comfortable victory for the Thruppers. Finished off in double quick style.
Indeed less than 53 overs were needed for the whole game. Good job there is a
bar at the ground, then.
Brief match highlights
included:
- Jonesy picking up to wickets in his first over,
clean bowled
- Finno taking a couple of catches behind the
stumps. The “battle of the keepers” looks like it will not include Dommy
this year, But Basher will be in the race too for most catches.
- Tidy bowling from both Dingers and Russ, Rusty
winning 4-3 on wickets taken
- Tango bowling pies according to the official
notes in the scorebook (thanks Mystery) – going for 39 off 7
- Gino rescuing these figures with a spectacular
catch – his first for the club in over a year
- Haley’s Comet then passed by
- One of the batters smashed 60 before Dingers got
him lbw
- Scotty E returned to the fold, but we won’t
mention the bowling figures
- They made 140 but they did have 10 men
- Our first three batters scored exclusively in
boundaries - Quint, Dom and Finno – the latter hitting our first
competitive six of the season
- Yam blatted a few including another maximum
before ‘running out of steam’ – amazingly ran at least one ‘three’
- Dingers called for a runner and bizarrely the
selection was Yam Yam – after one ball Nick sensibly sent him back to the
pavilion – he was faster on one leg
- Yam claiming to be “significantly fatter than
you” to everyone at large
- Nigel umpiring the whole match dressed like
Crocodile Dundee in a ridiculous Ray Mears-style jungle hat
- Dingers finishing off the match with a six,
ending up on 77 not out
